Gungbe Voice & Text Project

Lend your voice to the Gun language.

We are building the first large, carefully checked collection of written and spoken Gungbe (Gun language). If Gungbe is your mother tongue, you can help — from your phone, in a few minutes a day.

Task 01

✍️ Translate

You see a short sentence in English and French and write it in Gungbe, with the correct letters and tone marks.

Task 02

✅ Review

You check another speaker's translation: approve it, correct it, or reject it.

Task 03

🎙️ Record

You read a Gungbe sentence aloud. The app warns you if the sound is too quiet or too loud.

Task 04

🎧 Listen

You listen to another speaker's recording and confirm that it says exactly the words shown.

Who can take part

How it works

  1. Send us a WhatsApp message. We send you the link to the project app, which opens inside Telegram.
  2. Read and accept the contributor terms in the app, and tell us your gender, age range and the region where you grew up speaking Gungbe.
  3. An administrator approves your account.
  4. Work whenever it suits you. Some contributors receive a daily plan, for example 50 sentences a day.

Is it paid?

Payment depends on the agreement you make with us before you start. Where work is paid, it is calculated from your approved work only — translations that passed review and recordings that passed checking — which you can see at any time in the app under My stats.

Your voice and your privacy

The full terms are on the contributor consent page, and how we handle personal data is explained in our privacy policy.

Why this matters

Speech recognition, translation tools and voice assistants exist for a handful of the world's languages. Gungbe is not one of them yet. Every sentence you translate and every recording you check is a step towards banks, clinics and public services being able to speak to Gungbe speakers in their own language.
